Since electronics no longer can be disposed of in regular trash, this is a great opportunity to get rid of space-hogging devices you no longer want or need.

Collections will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Passaic County Para-Transit Facility, 1310 Route 23 North, Wayne (behind Ski Barn).

Nina Seiden, program manager for Solid Waste & Recycling Programs, said almost all types of computer and electronics equipment will be accepted. This includes computer monitors, hard drives, printers, keyboards, modems, copier and fax machines, televisions, radios, VCRs and stereo systems, as well as CD players, DVD players, game systems, cell phones and old telephone systems.

The program also accepts used inkjet and laser toner cartridges, unwanted VHS tapes, CDs, DVDs, CD-ROMS, video games, computer games and floppy disks.

Seiden said not only is recycling the law in New Jersey, but recycling electronics provides many other benefits. Most importantly, recycling these items keeps a variety of toxins, such as lead, mercury, and cadmium, out of the groundwater supply.

The event is free for residents. Businesses must pre-register. For more information, or to pre-register, please call the Passaic County Office of Solid Waste & Recycling Programs at (973) 305-5738. Or, for more information, click here.
