Nearby residents said Medi Selman's plan to build the large home at 353 Main Ave. at the corner of Frances Street would not fit in with the neighborhood. Residents say there is already a problem with illegal apartment buildings in the area, NorthJersey.com said.

Zoning board members, who ultimately voted 7-0 to deny the request, were concerned that the building would be too large and that the basement could be used as a third apartment, according to NorthJersey.com.
