Paterson Schools Axing Even More Jobs

PATERSON, N.J. -- The Paterson School District sent more layoff notices last week, but it won't yet comment on how many people will be pink-slipped, according to the Paterson Press.

PEA President John McEntee said none of his members received the layoff notices last week.

Earlier, district officials said perhaps 115 layoffs were in the works, the Paterson Press reported. In the first wave of layoffs, dozens of secretaries got notices.

Paterson Education Association President John McEntee said no union members got layoff notices related to the budget, but some untenured teachers received non-renewals, according to the Paterson Press.

In the process of last year's budget cuts, the school district issued the dreaded notices to over 350, including 175 teachers, the Paterson Press reported.
