Last June, the New Jersey State Green Acres Program awarded the County a $1.3 million dollar grant to install ADA-compliant restrooms, pavilions and improvements to the auto-overlook, as well as for dredging Barbour Pond. The project's total cost is approximately $2.9 million, providing needed infrastructure repairs at the county’s most heavily used park. It traverses over 568 acres in Woodland Park and the City of Paterson.

The Garret Mountain Reservation offers park visitors a wide range of recreational activities and facilities, including an equestrian center, athletic fields, fishing, picnic grounds, jogging paths and trails for cross-country skiing, hiking and running. It also hosts the annual Passaic County Fair, in August.

The Lambert Castle and Lambert Tower, both listed on the National and New Jersey Historic Registers, are at the reservation. In 2014, the county reopened the former for the first time since 1971, following a $2.1 million renovation. It offers sweeping views of North Jersey and the New York City skyline.

"The Passaic County Board of Chosen Freeholders is committed to investing and improving our Parks System to make it a destination for residents across North Jersey," said Freeholder Director Theodore "T.J." Best. "This investment by the Freeholders and State of New Jersey will protect and preserve Garret Mountain for generations to come."

"Investment in parks, open space, and recreation not only protects our environment and improves our quality of life, but also increases property values," said Freeholder Pat Lepore. "As a resident and former Mayor of Woodland Park, I see firsthand the use and enjoyment people get from visiting Garret Mountain. By improving its facilities and providing handicap accessible bathrooms and amenities, we are making it easier for all our constituents – no matter their physical limitations – to enjoy this beautiful park."
