The new playground at Christopher Columbus Park now features slides, swings and several jungle gyms. The area has been a spot of focus for Passaic, City Spokesman Keith Furlong told Daily Voice.

The main construction came from both skilled and novice helpers from Oct. 2 to 5 with an unveiling Tuesday, Oct. 6.

"It's great, very uplifting for the community," Furlong said.

The funding came from various volunteer events and donations from organizations such as KaBoom!, a group dedicated to bringing play materials to children, according to its website.

The location is ideal for the playground as it can be found in the center of the city near Paulison Avenue, making it easy to walk to, Furlong said.

Passaic Mayor Dr. Alex Blanco said it was a proud day for Passaic.

"There are about 6,000 more local children involved in city recreation programs today than just four years ago,” Blanco said in a statement sent to Daily Voice. “The City Council and my administration are partners in upgrading and expanding recreational activities for our children and families.”

The playground is right next to an indoor recreational facility, another recent addition to Passaic, Furlong said.
