The department issued an alert advising residents not to provide money or information to unfamiliar callers.

Reports recently have been reported of phony IRS representatives calling residents to collect back taxes, a probable scam, the alert stated. Police advise residents whenever you receive an unexpected call, simply don't talk to the person.

For more information, contact the department at 973-427-1168.
