Gleason set up a fundraiser. to help pay for the medical bills of Destiny and Analis Arias after hearing that they were struck by a vehicle in North Haledon in late September.
The siblings, 10 and 8 years old, respectively, were recently reported in stable condition but have a long road to recovery ahead.
"I felt horrible so I wanted to help them," Gleason told Daily Voice.
James Tarpley, a co-worker of Gleason, said the girls are feeling better but suffered serious head injuries. They were in medically induced comas for a few days but are now able to eat and talk.
Destiny and Analis still need cognitive therapy and remain at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, Tarpley said.
Gleason's fundraiser took in about $8,000 for medical expenses as of Oct. 20. Although that's great, he said, he hopes to reach $50,000 for the family.
Analis and Destiny's mother, Sasha. is the sole caretaker for the girls and has been unable to work during her daughters' hospital stay, Gleason said. The girls still face years of therapy to recover, and Gleason said he hopes to ease the financial burden.
