The Passaic County Public Housing Agency announced the award winners at the Freeholder meeting held June 28.
The recipients of the honors were Haledon resident Omar Muhajer and Appolonia Ezeanii of Bloomingdale.
Muhajer, a recent graduate of Manchester Regional High School, who will be attending Montclair State University in the fall to pursue his dream of becoming a dentist, was presented with a check in the amount of $4,000.
Ezeanii, who is attending William Paterson University in pursuit of a degree in both criminology and health, was presented with a $1,000 scholarship.
NJNAHRO, an organization which promotes affordable housing across New Jersey, provides several scholarships each year to students throughout the state who wish to continue their education.
The County Public Housing Agency is a member of the association.
“In the past, NJNAHRO specifically targeted high school seniors who are going on to college,” said Janice DeJohn, the County Public Housing Agency’s executive director. “This year, the organization also included residents who, at any stage of their life, decide to enroll in college and earn their degree. We are very proud of both Omar and Appolonia as NJNAHRO only had four scholarship awardees this year, and two of them are from Passaic County.”
