Arians was born on Oct. 3, 1952.

Arians was a quarterback for Virginia Tech, and his record at the school for the most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback -- 11 -- wasn't even tied until 2011 and still hasn't been beaten.

After college, Arians stayed with the team as a graduate assistant. But he apparently only did so because he didn't land his then-dream job of teaching junior-high PE, coaching and teaching driver's ed, according to a 2014 ESPN article.

But coaching at a higher level has worked out for Arians. He was a lower-level coach for Mississippi State and University of Alabama, before being named head-coach of Temple University.

In the NFL, he's been a positions coach for the Kansas City Chiefs, New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts, and he was offensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers and Colts. He was interim head coach of the Colts in 2012 and named the 2012 AP Coach of the Year.

In 2013, he signed a four-year deal to lead the Cardinals, and he was named the 2014 AP Coach of the Year as well.
