The 3rd Annual CASA race welcomes families and friends to wear their favorite superhero costumes for a 4 Mile Run & Walk at Garret Mountain Reservation in Woodland Park, starting at 8:30 a.m.
The superhero theme grew out of the idea that every child needs a hero, but abused children need superheroes.
Registered participants age 12 and under will receive a commemorative superhero cape, while adults will receive a t-shirt. Capes will also be available for purchase.
This family event includes a 4 Mile run/walk, certified and sanctioned as part of the “Grand Prix Series” by the USATF-NJ, and a 1-mile run/walk for kids and families.
The day includes a costume contest and several post race activities for kids. Prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers in the 4-mile and run/walk for kids, as well as the top three male and female finishers by age categories.
Last year's Superhero Run was a great event to help fulfill a critical need for CASA volunteers. Each year it costs approximately $2,000 to supervise one CASA volunteer and approximately $300 to train each new CASA volunteer.
Funds raised from this run will go toward training and supervising additional volunteers. Sponsors make the event a success and are still sought.

Passaic County CASA is a nonprofit organization that recruits, screens, trains, and supervises volunteers to “Speak Up for a Child” removed from home due to abuse or neglect.
CASA is the only program in New Jersey that uses trained volunteers to work one-on-one with children, ensuring that each child receives needed services and achieves permanency in a safe, nurturing home.
Last year, over 600 youth went through the Passaic county foster care system, however because of a lack of volunteers, only 25 percent of them were able to benefit from a CASA.
