The Women of Achievement awards gala honors individuals from local communities who have made outstanding contributions in their careers or personal lives, serve as positive role models, and exemplify the values of Girl Scouting.

This year's program theme is "Girls Change the World," which celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scout Gold Award, which is the highest award a girl can earn in Girl Scouting. This year's honorees include

  • Linda Bowden, of Ridgewood -- regional president of PNC Bank
  • Gina Bruzzichesi, of Denville -- senior VP of Avis Budget Group
  • Malaak Compton-Rock, of Alpine -- founder and director of the Angelrock Project
  • Dr. Ursula Parrish Daniels, of Hackensack -- executive assistant to the president, Bergen Community College.

The group will also honor Mahwah's Lindsey Inserra-Hughes, who is VP of Corporate Retail Health & Wellness for Inserra Supermarkets, with the Elinor J. Ferdon Young Woman of Promise Award, and Denville's Katherine Bickerton, who is a scouts volunteer and leader, with the Mitzi Golbek Spirit of Girl Scouting Award.

"These women are incredible role models for our girls and we cannot wait to honor them for contributions to their communities and their field of work," said Betty Garger, president and CEO of Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey. "We are honored to have such a prestigious slate of Women of Achievement."

The gala features an extended cocktail reception, 50/50 raffle and silent auction. Guests from area corporations and the community are welcome to help honor these women by attending, placing an ad in the tribute journal or volunteering as an event committee member. Both tickets and ads can be purchased online.

Proceeds from the gala provides financial assistance to girls in need, especially within GSNNJ’s urban areas, who without help would not receive the benefits of Girl Scouting. For more information, contact Jennifer Tanis at 973-248-8200, ext. 4604, or jtanis@gsnnj.org, or visit the event website.
