Come Hike Along The Morris Canal Greenway in May

TOTOWA, N.J. -- The Morris Canal Greenway Project is organizing a hike along the Morris Canal Greenway on Sunday, May 15.

"The historic Morris Canal right-of-way is being repurposed as a public greenway, creating new opportunities for recreation, tourism, education and economic growth," the YouTube page notes.

The hike will begin at noon, at the Mountain View New Jersey Transit station, in Wayne. To register for the hike, call Jason Simmons at 973-569-4040.

According the video embedded above, "The Morris Canal once spanned 102 miles across the state, transporting coal or other cargo, and overcoming major elevation changes with innovative locks and incline planes."

"This is a remarkable segment of history that is so worth preserving and worth coming to see for yourself," said Elizabeth Roy, of the Warren County Planning Department.
