Annual 5K Benefits Families Dealing With Serious Illnesses

WAYNE, N.J. -- Henry's Halos and the Kids Therapy Fund are hosting a 5K and kids Super Hero Fun Run on Saturday, April 30.

Henry -- seen here in his Make-A-Wish tree house -- was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He's doing better, but the organization founded to help his family continues, helping other families struggling with serious illnesses.

"The race is open to runners, joggers and walkers," organizers note. "Bring your friends for a fun day out for a wonderful cause."

Henry was diagnosed with a brain tumor, and Henry's Halos was originally formed to help with family with expenses. Henry is now doing better, and the organization now raises money to benefit families with children or parents suffering from traumatic illnesses and injuries -- both with medical and just living costs -- through a variety of efforts. Henry's Halos Interns also help with chores and errands.

After the 5K and fun run, there will be food, prizes, vendors, sports memorabilia auction, raffles, and special guests with photo and autograph opportunities.

T-shirts to benefit young Lily LaRue -- who lost her battle with a difficult type of brain tumors when she was 7 -- will also be on sale. You can also donate directly to the Lily LaRue Foundation, which helps other families dealing with the disease, here.

You can sign up here.

The run will be from 9-11 a.m., 18 Newark Pompton Turnpike, in Riverdale. Event registration will be from 8-8:45 a.m. The Superhero Fun Run registration will be from 10-10:45 a.m., and the run will begin at 11.

This is a rain or shine event.

You can also donate directly to Henry's Halos here, or at the main website. For more information about the organization and to keep up with events, visit its website or follow it on Facebook.
