The 90-year-old defrocked former Cardinal Theodore McCarrick stands accused of running a sex ring out of his Jersey Shore beach house in Sea Girt. One victim claims in a lawsuit that he was molested by McCarrick and three other priests during overnight stays at the then-Bishop's home in Monmouth County, the New York Post reports. Ex-Morris County Priest, Admitted Child Sex Abuser Dies In Nursing Home
Former Morris County priest James T. Hanley, who admitted to abusing at least a dozen children in Pompton Plains and Mendham throughout a 14-year period, died in a nursing home last week. Hanley, 83, previously served a decade as a pastor at St. Joseph’s Church in Mendham before he was defrocked in 2003, Paterson Diocese attorney Kenneth Mullaney said. The Diocese of Paterson then gave out nearly $5 million in settlements to 21 of Hanley’s accusers in 2004, reports say. A man is accusing former Roman Catholic Cardinal Theodore McCarrick of assaulting him as a teen at a Hackensack church in a lawsuit filed Monday under newly-enacted New Jersey law. John Bellocchio was a 14-year-old altar boy at the St. Francis of Assisi when the alleged incident occurred, NJTV News reports. Now 37, Bellocchio claims the church covered up his case and others.
