A male-dominated South Jersey golf club kept women from becoming members, prevented them from owning homes on its property and handicapped those employed there, state authorities charged. As of last July, only three of the Pine Valley Golf Club’s 700 members were women, Acting Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin said in announcing a state Division of Civil Rights complaint against the historically male-dominated club in Camden County on Wednesday, April 27. Academy Bus Lines must pay a former driver $40,000 for firing him because he took a leave to care for his dying father, New Jersey's top law enforcer said Friday. The state Division of Civil Rights found “reasonable suspicion” to suggest the Hoboken-based company intended to “discourage and impede” the driver from taking his legally-entitled time to care for his ailing father in North Carolina, Acting New Jersey Attorney General Andrew J. Manager Of Bergen Apartments Pays $30,000 To Settle Discrimination Charge
The real estate company that manages a Bergenfield housing complex has agreed to pay $30,000 to an applicant who was denied an apartment because he planned to pay a portion of his rent with federal housing assistance, state authorities said. Tower Management Service – manager of the 237-unit Ivy Lane Apartments in Bergenfield – also has agreed to “significant policy changes” at all 18 of its apartment communities to prevent non-discrimination, particularly against applicants looking to cover their rent with Section 8 assistance, state Attorney General Gurbir S.
