UPDATE: One victim was confirmed dead and westbound Route 3 in East Rutherford was temporarily closed Wednesday morning following what was the most serious in a series of crashes on icy North Jersey roads. Here's a listing of incidents. Mark Kolta, 31, of North Bergen had been involved in an earlier chain-reaction crash on the Hackensack River bridge on westbound Route 3 shortly after 6:30 a.m., East Rutherford Deputy Police Chief Phillip Taormina said. Pipe Bomb Found Near Bus Stop, Bergen Apartment Complex Evacuated
A River Edge garden apartment complex was partially evacuated Thursday afternoon after an inert pipe bomb was discovered behind a nearby bus stop, authorities said. Someone found the black metal pipe with copper pellets inside behind a retaining wall at the Kinderkamack Road bus stop outside the Continental Gardens complex off the corner of Howland Avenue, Bergen County Sheriff Anthony Cureton confirmed. A driver was hospitalized with what responders said were compound leg and ankle fractures after a freakish crash Thursday afternoon in River Edge. The Honda Civic ended up atop a bollard in the parking lot of the CVS on Kinderkamack Road at Rutgers Place near the Hackensack border around 3 p.m. Firefighters doused a blaze in the engine compartment as police officers got the driver out safely. Troubled Naked Man Runs Out Of Hackensack Cemetery
An emotionally troubled River Edge man ran naked and bleeding from Hackensack Cemetery on Tuesday after apparently trying to dig up a grave there, authorities said. Temperatures had barely topped freezing when a police officer working a traffic detail on Kinderkamack Road outside the Madison Arms apartment complex spotted the 31-year-old man as he emerged from behind the cemetery near the River Edge border and Route 4 shortly before 10:30 a.m., they said. Pedestrian Struck, Killed Outside Popular Bergen County Club
UPDATE: The manager of a popular River Edge nightclub survived his injuries after being struck by a car outside the club Friday night, the owner said. Edward Kallen was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center after being struck around 7 p.m. near the corner of Kinderkamack Road and Ackerson Street just off westbound Route 4. Kallen, 58, of Hillsdale sustained bumps and bruises but otherwise was OK, said owner Paul Binetti, who was with him at the hospital. Binetti said the driver is 96 and was speeding.
