Ford announced that it would recall over 450,000 Bronco Sport SUVs and Maverick vehicles because of an issue with the battery that can cause the drive train to lose power and increase the likelihood of wrecks. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration released a report on Friday, April 12, saying sensors in the car could fail to notice a change in the battery's power. An 8-year-old horseback rider suffered serious injuries in a crash with an SUV in North Jersey this week, authorities said. The child was riding the horse along Linn Smith Road in Frankford Township, when the horse traveled into the roadway and struck the side of a Ford SUV around 5:10 p.m, New Jersey State Police Trooper Troy McNair said. The community is rallying to support the family of a 55-year-old man who was struck and killed after his car broke down along the Garden State Parkway. Robert Piel Sr. of Bayonne "had a heart to help those he could," according to a GoFundMe set up to pay funeral costs. Piel was standing in the left lane of the parkway after his Ford stopped in the center lane on Oct. 14 in Sayreville, according to New Jersey State Police. A crash caused delays on the Garden State Parkway, authorities said. Troopers responded to the crash at 6:04 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27 on the Garden State Parkway north at milepost 115.6 in Holmdel Township, according to Detective I Jeffrey Lebron, a New Jersey State Police spokesman.
