A Monmouth County man was rescued after a blowtorch melted his shoes into the ground and fumes caused him to pass out, authorities said. In a Facebook post, Keyport police said it happened on the morning of Sunday, Apr. 7. A 56-year-old Union County man died while trying to light a fire pit but instead sparked an explosion that may have killed him, local police said.
