Jersey Shore Officer Smashes Car Window To Rescue Child -- Then Pays For New One A fast-acting Jersey Shore police officer smashed a window of a car to rescue a child accidentally locked inside by his mother, and then offered to cover the costs of a replacement window. Island Heights Patrolman Mellott saw the frantic mom outside of her vehicle on River Avenue, saying she had just secured her child in to a car seat but accidentally locked her keys inside the vehicle on July 12. Crimestoppers Pays: Family Who Helped Police In Hackensack Robbery Rewarded Cash fell from his pockets as a robber ran from a Hackensack 7-Eleven before dawn one recent morning. Police caught him in the McDonald’s parking lot across the street with help from some civilians. Crimestoppers awarded a $500 check to a city couple and their young son for assisting. Pierre Zuniga, Paola Silva and their son, Samuel, collected the check during a visit to police headquarters with city Detective Capt. Darrin DeWitt and Detective Michael Koenig, who handled the case. Neptune Township Police Thank Bystanders Who Helped Free Bicyclist Pinned Under SUV Police took to social media Tuesday to thank Good Samaritans who helped rescue a bicyclist trapped under an SUV.  "Upon arrival, officers found the injured man trapped almost completely underneath the vehicle, unable to move," Neptune Township police said on Facebook. The unidentified man riding the bike was struck on Route 35 and pinned under a red Nissan last week.  Police officers began trying to move the vehicle enough to render aid.
