JCP&L Will Trim Trees Along 3,400 Miles Of Power Lines To Reduce Outages
Jersey Central Power & Light is planning to trim trees to protect more than 3,400 miles of power lines across the Garden State, officials said. JCP&L will clear trees as part of a $32.5 million plan to prevent power outages during severe weather, the company said in a news release on Wednesday, Apr. 10. It's the first part of an annual $1.5 million increase in tree-trimming costs as part of a settlement with the state Board of Public Utilities. A Monmouth County man will remain in jail after he was accused of trying to kidnap a teen girl and groping a woman in a Target parking lot during a two-county crime spree, authorities said. UPDATE: A New Jersey police officer did nothing wrong in pursuing a stolen motorcycle whose driver ended up dying in a subsequent crash, a grand jury has ruled. The National Weather Service has released snow totals from the latest winter storm. In New Jersey, the most amount of snow from the Friday, Jan. 19 storm appears to have fallen in Hopewell Township (Cumberland County) and Mount Royal (Gloucester County), where 6.5 inches of snow were reported. Yet another December rain storm has come and gone, leaving many New Jersey towns under water. According to the National Weather Service's Philadelphia/Mount Holly office, between one and three inches of rain fell across the area, ending early Thursday, Dec. 28. The town that got the most amount of rain is Washington Township (Warren County), with 3.38 inches, the weather service said. Mercer County Man, 62, Killed In Multi-Vehicle Collision On I-295: State Police
A 62-year-old man from Mercer County was killed in a multiple-vehicle crash on Interstate 295 in Burlington County, authorities said. One of the drivers, Dennis Cox, 62, of Hamilton Square was ejected and fatally injured, they said. A wildfire has now consumed 1,500 acres in Wharton State Forest near Atco Dragway in Camden County, authorities said. A 45-year-old dump truck driver was killed when a tire failed and he overturned along the New Jersey Turnpike in Burlington County, authorities said. A youth officer with the New Jersey Department of Corrections died over the weekend. Senior Correctional Police Officer Emiliano Serrano, of Camden, died on Sunday, Aug 6. He worked in Burlington County. A Marine Corps veteran, Serrano died at work, a GoFundMe page said, but the exact circumstances of his death were unclear. Serrano began his NJDOC career in 2007. Motorcyclist, 50, Killed After Striking Tree In South Jersey: State Police
A 50-year-old motorcyclist from Ocean County was killed in a crash in Burlington County, authorities said. New Jersey State Troopers responded to the crash at 7:36 p.m. Sunday, June 25 on Route 653 eastbound at milepost 0.5 in Bass River, they said. Christopher Golden, of Tuckerton, was operating a Harley Davidson motorcycle which ran off the roadway to the left and struck a tree, a State Police spokesman said. As a result of the crash, Golden was ejected and sustained fatal injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
