Firefighter Injured, House Destroyed By Fire In Toms River
A firefighter was injured while battling a fire that destroyed a house in Toms River, emergency officials said. Crews responded to the fire at a home on Bergen Avenue at around 2:04 p.m. on Saturday, Mar. 9, the Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention said in a news release. A Jersey Shore animal rehabilitation center rescued a baby seal tangled up in plastic wrapping from a case of bottled water. The Marine Mammal Stranding Center (MMSC) said the female grey seal was found on the shore in Beach Haven at around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 15. Twelve dogs and other animals were rescued from dire conditions by American Human Societies and Newark Animal Control last month. Seal Bitten By Shark Rescued In NJ Beach Town: Officials
A one-year-old seal is recovering after he was bitten by a shark on Christmas Day in Surf City on Long Beach Island. When Marine Mammal Stranding Center, based in Brigantine, arrived on the scene, they said they found the yearling suffering from a large laceration on his left hip and wounds on his abdomen and around his tail. The seal was transported to the center for medical treatment and staff administered fluids and flushed out his wounds, MMSC said. He is currently on oral and topical medications to prevent infection and is resting in intensive care, MMSC said.

A dog locked in a hot car for nearly 45 minutes was rescued by police officers this week in Ocean County (scroll for video). The small, white dog appeared to be okay after the tense rescue on Tuesday, Aug. 30 at Sherman Ave and Ocean Terrace in Seaside Heights, as reported by Jersey Shore Fire Response.
