The incident began around 11:30 p.m. when Garfield officers responded to reports of suspicious individuals wearing masks in the 400 block of River Drive, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office said.

As officers arrived, they encountered two vehicles fleeing the area. One of the vehicles struck two officers, while the second vehicle collided with an occupied Garfield Police Department SUV, officials said.

The injured officers were treated for various injuries, none of which are believed to be life-threatening, according to investigators.

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and Garfield Police are conducting an active and ongoing investigation into the incident.

“This case remains under investigation, and additional details will be released when available,” said Deputy Chief Jeff Angermeyer, Public Information Officer for the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.
