A man who mowed down a pedestrian, assaulted others then barricaded himself in a Hudson County home was in custody after a seven-hour standoff Sunday, July 2, authorities said. The strange scene began shortly before 9 a.m., when 45-year-old Malik Moore, of Orange, struck a pedestrian near the intersection of 70th Street and Bergenline Avenue, police in Guttenberg said. Moree tried to walk away from the scene, and during that stroll, assaulted another person, police said. Then, he went rogue. West New York Police Captain Stole $60K From Youth Academy: Prosecutor
A 49-year-old West New York police captain was charged with stealing from the West New York Youth Police Academy, which he helped raise money for, authorities said. Erwin Moreno was arrested on Thursday, June 15 after an investigation by the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office Internal Affairs Unit, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. Between 2016 and 2023, Moreno stole $60,000 from the organization's funds for his own benefit, Suarez said. A 24-year-old Hudson County man has been accused of sexually assaulting a 4- and 7-year-old boy, in the presence of other children, authorities said. The state has filed a detention motion for Antonio Yat Pop, whose hearing is scheduled for July 5, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. Man, 25, Stabbed Dead In Hudson County
A 25-year-old man was stabbed dead on Sunday, Feb. 6 in West New York, authorities said. Wiliam Chipix Simon was found with stab wounds to his torso at 6414 Dewey Ave., around 5:15 a.m., Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. He was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 5:30 a.m. The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office. Charges have been upgraded for a 33-year-old West New York man arrested in connection with his 62-year-old mother's death, authorities said Sunday. Emmanuel Gonzalez was initially charged with aggravated assault after his mom, Irma L.
