Two Trapped, Killed In Fierce Passaic Apartment Fire
Two people were killed in a ferocious garden apartment fire in Passaic on Sunday. The fire apparently broke out on the first floor in back of the two-story Spruce Street building and instantly spread to the second floor and a cockloft -- trapping the victims -- shortly before 9:30 a.m. March 3. A vehicle just outside the brick structure also caught fire. A battalion chief reported heavy fire and smoke right from the get-go. Firefighters Douse Rutherford Basement Blaze
Firefighters doused a smoky house blaze that began in the basement of a Rutherford home. No one was injured in the fire, which broke out in the two-story, two-family house on Springfield Avenue shortly before 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 9. It was knocked down and brought under control within an hour, responders at the scene said. Mutual aid was provided by firefighters from East Rutherford and Wallington. Dog Rescued In Saddle Brook Fire
A house fire was extinguished Wednesday afternoon in Saddle Brook. A dog was rescued as Saddle Brook firefighters doused a basement blaze on Elm Avenue shortly before 4 p.m. April 26. Two people also were reportedly treated for smoke inhalation. Firefighters had it knocked down in well under a half hour and under control 20 minutes or so after that. The most serious damage was confined to the basement of the 2½-story, wood-frame home. Passaic House Fire Doused
Friends said a woman and her teenage children lost most of their belonging when a July 4th weekend fire damaged their Passaic home. Firefighters quickly got to the Third Street address off Essex Street shortly before 8:30 p.m. and had the fire under control in barely a half-hour. They limited the fire damage to the first floor, where the blaze apparently began, and the second floor, which sustained heavy smoke damage. No injuries were reported. HERE's WHAT HAPPENED: A Palisades Park driver whose car plunged into a creek behind MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford before dawn Thursday was charged with trespassing after he broke into a nearby business and was found asleep -- naked -- hours later, authorities said.
