Chomping Grounds: Great Whites Lurking Off Jersey Shore, NYC, Long Island Are Social Distancing
Looks like we won't need a bigger boat: Although reports have emerged of a half-dozen or so great white sharks lurking off the Jersey Shore, New York City and Long Island this summer, a real-life version of "Jaws" isn't coming to a beach near you.
Among the maneaters out there is Caroline -- nearly 13 feet long and 1,348 pounds -- whom the OCEARCH shark tracker pinged between Seaside Heights and Barnegat Light on July 1.
Add in Cabot (nine feet, 533 pounds) and Caper (eight feet, 348 pounds), both of whom were pinged off the Hamptons in early June.

UPDATE: Asbury Park, Bradley, Island Heights, Ocean City, Sea Girt and Spring Lake are closing down their boardwalks to stop the spread of coronavirus.
Bay Head, Brick, Island Heights, Lavellette, Mantoloking, Ocean Heights, Point Pleasant and Sandy Hook closed their beaches, joining Seaside Heights. The boardwalk in Seaside Heights remains open -- for now.

A 45-year-old Dumont man was forced to forfeit his position as a Hoboken police officer after he and his wife were found guilty of collecting $187,000 by lying on superstorm Sandy relief applications, authorities charged.
Nikola Lulaj and Majlinda Lulaj, 32, falsely claimed in their applications that their home in Seaside Heights -- which was damaged by Superstorm Sandy -- was their primary residence at the time the disaster struck, New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal said.
