Safe Stolen From Distracted Mahwah Homeowner Found 75 Miles Away
A safe stolen from a Mahwah home by a smooth talker and at least one accomplice was recovered – empty -- in Central Jersey, said police who are investigating the diversionary theft. Police asked residents along or near Darlington Avenue who may have been approached or noticed anything suspicious early Thursday evening to contact them. Crash Knocks Salt Spreader Off Truck Onto Route 17
A landscaper's salt spreader was knocked from the back of his truck and onto Route 17 northbound Thursday morning in a minor collision with a box truck in Mahwah, authorities said. The landscaper was leaving Home Depot just after 7:30 a.m. when the box truck cut him off, causing him to lose control of the vehicle, Mahwah Police Chief James Batelli said. The salt spreader fell off the truck and landed in the middle lane of the highway causing minor delays, the chief said. No injuries were reported. The accident is under investigation.

North Jersey Bookkeeper Stole $300G From Employer To Pay Her Own Bills, Police Say
A North Jersey tree service company's 39-year-old bookkeeper stole more than $300,000 from the company and then used the funds to pay her own bills, said authorities who arrested her. During a financial review, the company owner noticed that multiple business checks had been cashed or deposited to other bank accounts without authorization, Mahwah Police Chief James Batelli said. A former Mahwah High School art teacher was charged with having sex with an underage student there. Joshua Green, 33, of Clifton, was charged with sexual assault, official misconduct and child endangerment. A Superior Court judge in Paterson freed him, pending further court action, after a detention hearing Thursday afternoon. MAHWAH, N.J. -- The rising current of the Ramapo River had reached the knees of a woman and three young girls stranded Friday night in a pickup truck behind the Sheraton Mahwah Hotel. Bergen Prosecutor: 'Helping Hand' Continues To Reach Opioid Addicts
HACKENSACK, N.J. – More than three dozen heroin users arrested in Bergen County over a four-day period got more than summonses to appear in court: They were each also offered the opportunity to connect with a recovering addict who could one day help save his or her life.
