11 Years Running: Upper Saddle River PBA Fills Christmas Wish Lists For Needy Children
For the 11th consecutive year, members of Upper Saddle River PBA Local #218 participated in CUMAC’s Christmas Wish-List program for needy youngsters. CUMAC, located in Paterson, is a non-for-profit dedicated to alleviating hunger in Passaic County and throughout New Jersey. PBA Local #218 received 20 holiday wishes from needy children of all ages -- for toys, books, jackets, diapers and more. There’s still time to contribute or volunteer. Lodi Schoolchildren Help Homeless Through 'Blessings In A Backpack'
Students and staff at Washington Elementary School in Lodi participated in a “Blessings in a Backpack” charitable event to help the homeless. Four dozen backpacks were filled with much-needed supplies. “As always, our students and staff exceeded expectations,” Principal Kevin Dowson said. “They doubled the original goal of 24 backpacks.” School Security Officer Bill Byrnes served as the liaison between the school and charity founder Tony Osso.

Bergen County Police Go Head-To-Head With SWAT Team, Army Cadets For Charity
Bergen County law enforcement, SWAT team members and U.S. Army cadets will be going head-to-head for charity next month. Battle of the Warriors begins at 10 a.m. at Fair Lawn's Parisi Speed School, Dec. 1. Admission is $10 and will all go to charity. Wood-Ridge Soldier German Roa, 37, 'Lived To Help Others'
Retired U.S. Army veteran German Roa of Clifton and Wood-Ridge died on March 23. He was 37 years old. Born in Chile, Roa came to the U.S. in 1983 and lived in Passaic before moving to Clifton and later Wood-Ridge. A parishioner of St. Paul's RC Church, Roa proudly served in the U.S. Army as an MP retiring as a staff sergeant after 20 years of service. More than $11,300 had been raised as of Tuesday afternoon for Roa on a GoFundMe, where he was remembered as a selfless citizen and soldier. SADDLE BROOK, N.J. -- Domenico and Tiffany Galluzzo of Saddle Brook had just dropped off bags of clothing Monday for a family two blocks away who were burned out by a fire when they got the call. Clothing, Supplies Intended For Vets Stolen From Outside Glen Rock Home
GLEN ROCK, N.J. -- A Glen Rock resident told police three bags of clothing she'd left outside her garage door for veterans were stolen. The Fieldmere Avenue resident said she'd left the bags of clothing, towels and pillows outside her garage door Friday morning for pickup by the Veterans of America organization, Police Chief Dean Ackermann said. The organization later contacted her and said the bags were gone when the driver pulled up, the chief said.
