"There is a growing need for preschool education," Hurley told Daily Voice. "Studies and data nationwide show that giving students a chance to jumpstart education is a good thing."

Tuition will be $3,000 per student for the Lincoln and Washington schools' program. Registration for classes will be on a first-come first-serve basis beginning January 19.

The program cost will be partially offset by the amount the district was already paying to bus special education students to out of town preschool programs, Hurley said.

Hurley estimates an additional 50 to 60 students will be able to participate in the preschool program, including special needs students.

Children are required to be 3 years of age by Oct. 1, 2016 for the 3-year-old morning class. The same holds true for the 4-year-old class.

"This is a benefit for the special ed. students, the regular students, and a fiscal and educational benefit for the district," Hurley said.
