Discussions of college admissions always involve a lot of rumors and anxiety, but many of the counselors of Collegewise are former admissions officers with deep knowledge of what actually happens with a student's college applications. Collegewise is a private college counseling company, founded in 1999.
With the help of these former admissions officers, Collegewise created this seminar to answer the question, "What are colleges really looking for?" Are grades, test scores and activities all equally important? What other factors are considered during the admissions process? This presentation addresses those questions and takes families behind the scenes of a college admissions office.
The organizers hope that families in attendance leave this seminar feeling confident about the college planning choices they make, and also have a good understanding of how to navigate the nerve-wracking rumors that circulate around the topic of admissions.
Nan Yuasa, senior director of Collegewise Bergen County, will lead the presentation. She studied international business and marketing as an undergraduate at Georgetown University. She received her master's degree in school counseling from Seton Hall University, and she worked as a volunteer mental health counselor for the Rockland County Youth Bureau and in the guidance department school at Tappan Zee High School.
Yuasa currently works with students who attend Northern Valley Demarest, Northern Valley Old Tappan, Tenafly, Cresskill, Bergen Academies, Dwight Englewood, Don Bosco, Bergen Catholic, Academy of Holy Angels, Fairlawn, Fort Lee, Suffern, Clarkstown North and several southern New Jersey high schools.
All students considering applying to college are encouraged to attend. Register here. For more information, contact either Maria Russo at the library, at 201-939-3930, or Yuasa, at nany@collegewise.com or 201-561-6380.
The session will be from 6:30-7:30 p.m. The library is located at 143 Boiling Springs Ave.
