In it he recounts how how over a six-month period, MBK partnerships have been created with 100 local agencies, including municipal, corporate, non-profit, community, and educational resources in the city.
He also commends the efforts of New Rochelle City Councilman Jared Rice and New Rochelle High School Principal Reggie Richardson in the post.
Calling the effort "simple and urgent," he asks, "how can we as a city work together to bring our most valuable assets - our young people - to their fullest potential, especially our most vulnerable group, young men of color?"
"New Rochelle has a diverse population that includes 67 percent blacks and Latinos in our community's schools. MBK New Rochelle seeks to build on the strength of our diversity and continue to improve conditions that will ensure success for every child.," Osborne said in the article.
My Brother's Keeper, initiated by President Obama, challenges communities to take steps to improve the life outcomes of young men of color. New Rochelle is one of at least 200 communities nationally, and the only one in Westchester, to have accepted the challenge.
My Brother's Keeper and the plan of action are supported by the City of New Rochelle, school district and numerous community organizations and individuals.
