The elevations came from samples collected at Pierrepoint School from the sink in the nurse's bathroom and the basement water fountain outside the Buildings and Grounds office, said Industrial Hygienist Lauren C. Adrion of Garden State Environmental.
The areas aren't used for drinking by any students, faculty or staff, Schools Supt. Jack Hurley said.
To evaluate the results, Adriano used the EPA’s Action Level of 15 parts per billion (PPB).
"The EPA strongly recommends that all water outlets in all schools that provide water for drinking or cooking meet a standard of 20 PPB lead or less," she said.
The tested samples were only slightly elevated – 7.38 PPB and 8.49 PPB, respectively – Adrion added.
