"This is something I've wanted to give my officers for some time, but we've been unable to fund it," Police Chief John Russo told Daily Voice.
Lafe Bush, Valley's director of emergency services, presented 90 tourniquets -- valued at $30 apiece -- enough for each officer and department vehicle, Russo said after Tuesday's presentation.
Access to a tourniquet can make the difference whether a police officer or citizen lives or dies, Russo noted.
It "minimizes the chance that a victim will bleed to death before medical personnel arrive," the chief said.
Valley's Department of Emergency Services has donated more than 1,000 tourniquets to hundreds of officers with no fewer than 17 police agencies -- as well as to the New Jersey Division of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
