Married for 55 years to Sandra, he served with the NJSP for 28 years, retiring as a lieutenant after heading up the State Police unit at the Meadowlands Sports Complex for five years.
He then became the chief of security for the Sheraton Meadowlands Hotel in East Rutherford.
A Navy veteran of the Korean War, Belcolle was actively involved in local sports, particularly the Ramsey Baseball Association — for which he served as president — and the Ramsey Junior Football Association. He coached in both and was the equipment manager for the Ramsey Football Association.
He was graduated from Paterson Central High School and received an Associates degree from Bergen Community College.
Besides his wife and son, Belcolle is survived by two other children, Eileen and Hank, a daughter-in-law, Maureen, and two grandsons, Joseph and Ryan.
Entompment at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah followed this morning’s funeral Mass at St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church in Ramsey.
Meanwhile, Bergen County Sheriff’s officers covered the town so that all members of the Alpine Police Department could attend.
Arrangements were handled by the Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home in Ramsey.
