Tractor-Trailer Crash Spills Fuel, Closes Westbound Route 3 In Rutherford

RUTHERFORD, N.J.–A tractor trailer on Tuesday jackknifed and struck a curb on westbound Route 3 in Rutherford, rupturing its fuel tank, police said.

About half of the fuel from the 120-gallon tank spilled onto the ramp to northbound Route 17 and into a storm drain, Sgt. Craig Capoano told Daily Voice.

The highway was closed indefinitely while the Bergen County Hazardous Materials Unit, Rutherford firefighter and state Department of Transportation tended to the incident..
