Employees at the corporate headquarters of Party Rental Ltd. on North Street in Teterboro gave BCPD officers a license plate number and descriptions of two vehicles, as well as descriptions of two men who they said took the recyclable materials, Chief Brian A. Higgins said.

As the thieves fled, their red pickup truck hit a Party Rental box truck, damaging its front end, Higgins said.

Thanks to one of the workers, the officers found the pickup on Phelps Avenue in Bergenfield.

While they were there, a dark-colored Ford Expedition fitting the description given by employees drove past, so the officers stopped it, Higgins said.

Inside, he said, they found the stolen scrap metal – as well as items taken in two separate thefts in Englewood.

They arrested the driver and his passenger. They were identified as Richard Allen, 50, and Carrington Page III, 46, both of whom live on Phelps Avenue where the pickup was parked.

Both remain in the Bergen County Jail on high bails, charged with various counts of theft, trespassing, criminal mischief and possession of burglar tools, as well as probation violations.

Allen, who’s been convicted on drug related charges and was on probation for a previous theft out of East Rutherford, is being held on a combined bail of $145,000. Records show he’s been arrested by several police agencies the past seven years, including the Palisades Interstate Parkway police and their counterparts in Fort Lee, Paramus and Rockaway Township.

Page, whose rap sheet also includes a host of offenses – from driving without a license to shoplifting  in towns from Bergen to Passaic to Essex counties — has a combined bail of $95,000.

Party Rental’s 350,000-square-foot corporate headquarters has a warehouse, offices and a 900-square-foot showroom.

Originally named Jersey Party Rental, it began as a secondary line of business for Oprandy’s Liquor Store in Englewood, which rented tables, chairs and glasses as a service to their customers who bought beer, wine and spirits for their home parties.

The business grew quickly, and the owners moved to Teterboro the summer of 2006.

Its trademarked pink hippo has become a familiar site throughout the region.
