“He’s apparently a smooth operator,” Rutherford Police Capt. Patrick Feliciano said of 46-year-old James Dunlap of Clifton, who was being held on $50,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail. “We discovered a similar incident out of Englewood (with a different victim).”
The 39-year-old Rutherford woman told police on Jan. 10 that she’d discovered 92 charges totaling $12,041.94 over the previous month.
“He got his car repaired at a BMW dealership in Bloomfield and at an auto repair shop in Clifton,” Feliciano said, flipping through several pages of expenses charged to the woman’s account. “He also paid his cable bill.”
Rutherford police arrested Dunlap before dawn yesterday at his Clifton home.
They charged him with credit card theft, wrongful impersonation (ID theft) and false use of a credit card.
He faces similar charges out of Englewood and has warrants for failing to pay summonses in Elizabeth, East Orange and West Orange, records show.
