PREVIOUS STORY: Rutherford police today released surveillance images of a pair of thieves who snatched nearly $200 from a female cab driver Saturday night.

The Classic Taxi cabbie told police she picked up the pair on 1st Street in Newark around 11 p.m., Capt. Patrick Feliciano said this afternoon.

Although they asked to go to Newark’s Penn Station, the thieves got a phone call en route and redirected the driver to the Rutherford train station, he said.

Five blocks from the station, the cabbie said, she asked for the $30 fare.

One of them “reached through her partition window, grabbed $197 from the center console, and ran from the cab” with his partner, Feliciano said.

If you recognize either or both, the captain asked that you call Detective Sgt. Michael Garner: (201) 939-6000
