Rutherford police charge ‘Eminem robber’ in Wells Fargo bank holdup

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: The “Eminem robber” is at it again: Rutherford police have charged 54-year-old Michael Hasuga with this morning’s $1,000 holdup of a Wells Fargo bank on Park Avenue — the fourth capture in four Rutherford bank robberies the past decade. [EDITOR’S NOTE: The FBI later revised that figure to $710.]

Hasuga was scooped up 20 minutes after the 10:24 a.m. robbery of the branch at 5 Sylvan Street on Route 21 just south of Nutley, Rutherford Police Capt. Hal Ciser told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

A woman ran out of the bank and told a passerby about the holdup. The passerby got a description of the white 1995 Chevy wagon.

Moments later, Sgt. Henry Farrell and Patrolman Robert Buell spotted the vehicle getting onto the highway.

“Everything was academic after that,” Ciser said. “He wasn’t about to get away, so there was no pursuit.”

Charges are robbery, theft and making terroristic threats because he threatened to hurt people in the bank with a note.
