A juvenile from the area just sold drugs to 18-year-old Julian Gentile of Rutherford “and the two decided to go joyriding,” a law enforcement source told CLIFFVIEW PILOT. “They were both under the influence of alcohol and Zanax.”
After popping the ignition switch with a screwdriver, they used a paving stone to try to unlock the steering column.
“They thought they did it, but once they started driving, the wheel stayed locked and they crashed,” the source said.
The car ended up in front of 83 Insley Ave. and both were taken into custody soon after.
The juvenile was released to his mother. Gentile, meanwhile, remained held on $50,000 bail this morning, pending a Municipal Court hearing in Rutherford on charges of burglary, theft, criminal mischief and receiving stoldn property.
