North Arlington Man Jumps To Death From Car On Route 3 In East Rutherford

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – A North Arlington jumped to his death from a moving vehicle Tuesday morning on westbound Route 3 near MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, authorities said.

Police say he jumped near the Route 120 cutoff.

Jorge J. Torres, 27, committed suicide by jumping from the car just east of the Route 120 turnoff just after 5 a.m., Police Chief Larry Minda said.

Minda’s officers tried CPR, but Torres was already dead, he said.

No charges were filed against the 24-year-old male driver from North Arlington, Minda said.

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Fatal Accident Investigation Unit, the county sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification and New Jersey State Police joined borough police and medical personnel at the scene.
