Wallington and Garfield police were looking for James Pellett, 26, of Neptune, when Clifton police arrested him on Tuesday.

An investigation by Garfield Detective Sgts. Joseph Delaney and Mario Pozo and Detective Marc Amos led to charges against Pellett in connection with a June 12 burglary on Willard Street, in which electronics were stolen, and a June 18 break-in on Wessington Avenue, in which jewelry and electronics were taken.

They also charged 23-year-old Eva Marut of Clifton in connection with the second burglary, Capt. Darren Sucorowski said. She was being held on $7,500 bail in the Bergen County Jail.

Wallington police said Pellet and Brian A. Krevolt, 26, fled through the Passaic River after homeowners interrupted a burglary two weeks ago.

A witness reported seeing one of two burglars waist-deep in the river during a search that included Bergen County Sheriff’s K9 officers, boats, and both county and local police from surrounding towns following the June 12 break-in on Crescent Road.

Detectives also got help from other citizens, as well as police in Garfield, East Rutherford and Passaic, Police Chief Carmello Imbruglia said at the time.

Krevolt was arrested by Detective Lt. Shawn Kudlacik at his Passaic home on June 18.

Authorities then continued to search for Pellett.

Pellett remained held without bail in the Bergen County Jail for violating the provisions of drug court, in addition to the charges of Garfield and Wallington.
