East Rutherford Native, Veteran William Zito Joins Police Department

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — William Zito became the newest member of the East Rutherford Police Department when he was sworn in by Mayor James Cassella during a ceremony at borough hall Tuesday night.

Zito, 30, is an East Rutherford native. He served in the United States Navy for five years before joining the department.

"I feel very fortunate to be able to work in the town in which I grew up," Zito told Daily Voice.

"It has been a dream of mine since I was young and I am looking forward to starting the job."

Zito's addition to the department brings the total up to 37 officers serving in the East Rutherford police force, according to Police Commissioner Joel Brizzi.

"I'm very proud to be able to appoint such a fine young man into our police department," Brizzi said. "He served our country well in the Navy and will now serve our borough well."
