Police responding to a call from 27-year-old Robert Annattone of Suffern that his 2005 Ford F-150 was stolen while he was at Shaker’s GoGo on Hoboken Road Friday night told him it had been repossessed from the Meadowlands Diner parking lot on Route 17 about an hour earlier.
Annattone, in turn, was “extremely irate, uncooperative and intoxicated” and attempted to “walk home” several times, Police Chief Thomas Nielsen said this afternoon.
“Due to his level of intoxication, the officers advised him he was in no condition to walk that far,” the chief said.
Annattone persisted and was taken into custody on a disorderly charge.
At police headquarters, Annattone “continued his unruly behavior and made statements suggesting he wanted to hurt himself,” and was taken to Bergen Regional Medical Center in Paramus, Nielsen said.
It had just passed midnight Saturday when Jersey City police notified their Carlstadt colleagues that an employee of Repossion Specialists Inc. reported finding the Bushmaster XM15 5.56 / .233 assault rifle in the back seat with a high-capacity magazine that contained 19 rounds of ammunition, including one round loaded into the chamber, the chief said.
Police arrested Annattone after he was released from BRMD around noon Saturday.
He remained held today on $42,500 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with possession of an assault rifle, illegal possession of a firearm and possession of a high-capacity magazine. A May 7 Municipal Court arraignment was scheduled.
