Carlstadt Detective Sergeant David Smith arrested Wuilliam Herrarte, 41, at his South Bound Brook home in Somerset County today and charged him with participating in the Nov. 8, 2012 break-in at a Gotham Parkway mailing company, Chief Thomas Nielsen said.
The arrest was made possible “after DNA testing on trace blood evidence collected from the scene by Bergen County Sheriff’s Office [Bureau of Criminal Identification] detectives matched DNA belonging to Herrarte,” he said.
Nielsen’s detectives also identified and arrested 36-year-old Jose Ramos of North Plainfield today at the burglarized company, where the chief said he worked.
Ramos “orchestrated the burglary based upon his knowledge of the building, its contents and the fact that the alarm system was not functioning at the time,” Nielsen said.
A company representative called police after finding the main entrance windows shattered and a safe containing cash, checks and various company documents missing, the chief said.
Both Herrarte and Ramos were being held on $10,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with burglary and theft, pending June 10 Municipal Court appearances.
