“The pilot of Mayor Bloomberg’s helicopter was doing a practice run (before taking the mayor to the concert) and he landed in the bus shuttle area instead of on the helipad,” said N.J. State Police Trooper Mark Pierce. Bloomberg wasn’t with him at the time, Pierce said.

Troopers directed the pilot, identified as Toby Wilson, to leave.

“Just a mistake,” Pierce said.

However, the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority revoked the mayor’s planned landing in the property area — near Berry’s Creek away from the stadium.

So Hizzoner had to shlep it to East Rutherford by limo.

He even got a shout-out from Bono after he arrived.

Bloomberg uses his “enormous wallet” to “fight against extreme poverty and disease. He makes me very proud. He also makes me laugh out loud,” the lead singer said. “Give it up for Mayor Bloomberg.”

According to Dennis Robinson, president of the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority, there was enough cause for concern for an upcoming discussion with the mayor’s office over an incident that could have turned catastrophic int such a densely populated event.
