Hosted by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the maximum 3,500 walkers, runners and other participants will head through the tunnel’s south tube to raise money for the cause.
(NOTE: The center tube remains open to vehicles during the event.)
Last year’s 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) event raised nearly $214,000 for Special Olympics New Jersey, boosting the overall total to more than $1.3 million since 1987.
Total donations/pledges as of this morning: $180,372.
The participants head to midtown Manhattan under the Hudson River and then turn around and make their way back to Weehawken.
They begin assembling at 6 a.m. at the Sheraton Lincoln Harbor Hotel.

Free shuttle service to and from the race will be provided to New Yorker by Coach USA Megabus every 15 minutes from 41st Street between Eighth and Ninth avenues in Manhattan beginning at 6 a.m.
