24 minor injuries after LaGuardia plane nearly skids into Flushing Bay

EXCLUSIVE PHOTOS: Two dozen people were examined or treated for injuries that authorities said weren’t life-threatening after a flight from Atlanta skidded off a LaGuardia Airport runway and into a fence that kept it from plunging into Flushing Bay.

“Delta Flight 1086 from Atlanta to LaGuardia landing on Runway 13 skidded into a fence late this morning,” the authority said. “All 131 passengers and five crew members were safely taken off plane.

The FDNY said three of the 24 injured people were taken to hospitals.

“Airport runways are closed due to standard procedures after such incidents. and National Transportation Safety Board is on its way at this time,” the authority said just before noon.”

Those aboard climbed onto a wing to get to the ground, then walked to buses that took them to terminals.

Passengers included New York Giants tight end Larry Donnell.

Twenty seven people were killed in March 1992, when with USAir Flight 405 plunged into the bay during takeoff in winter weather at LaGuardia.

Today’s flight took off shortly after 9 a.m. landed in snow and freezing fog at LaGuardia at 11:05 a.m., Delta said.

The plane skidded into a fencede berm and came to a stop with the nose hanging over the bay.

The airport will remain down until 7 p.m., the Federal Aviation Administration said.
