Robert Bewighouse, 88, Longtime Rutherford Resident

RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Robert Bewighouse, of Rutherford, died on Sunday, Jan. 22. He was 88.

A radio operator in the Navy from 1948 to 1950, Bewighouse was a baseball coach for the farm league in Rutherford. He played softball for K Realty, for a team called the Ageless Wonders.

He worked in the skilled profession of embroidery, and he last worked for All American Emblem in North Bergen, for 25 years, before he retired in 1987. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Regina Council 1688 of Rutherford, and he was a driver for Archbishop Peter Leo Gerety for many years.

Bewighouse is survived by his wife, Rose (Reardon), and his children, Robert and his wife Lisa, John, James and his wife Barbara, Richard and his partner Nancy Daly, Mary Jean Murphy and her husband Wayne, and Susan Syret.

He is also survived by his grandchildren Kenneth, Robert, Elyse, Karol, Kyra, Logan, Maly, Ryan, Caitlin, Conner, Jillian, John, Megan, Gavin, Andrew, Caitlin, Owen; and great-grandchildren Walker, William, Ava, Kenny, Ariana, Jasmin, Sabreena, Ayden, Indira, Djuna, Mackenzie and August.

Bewighouse was predeceased by his parents, J. Elwood and Margaret (Diehl) Bewighouse, and his siblings, Kenneth and Jean.

Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 24, in the Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Ave., in Rutherford. The funeral will be at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday from the funeral home, for a 9:30 a.m. mass at the Church of Saint Mary, in Rutherford. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, in North Arlington.
