Born in Jersey City, Schmidt was a U.S. Navy veteran. He worked for Allant Grey Paper Company in New York City for many years.
He is survived by his children, Edward, Ritchie, Christopher and Jeffrey Schmidt, and his grandchildren, Brienne, Matthew, Kelly, Sydney and River.
Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. on Friday, March 17, at the Macagna Diffily Onorato Funeral Home, 41 Ames Ave., in Rutherford. The funeral will be from the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, for a 10:30 a.m. funeral mass at St. Mary Church, in Rutherford. Entombment will be in George Washington Memorial Park Mausoleum, in Paramus.
