Doris (Battaglia) Futia, 95, Lifelong Rutherford Resident

RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Doris (Battaglia) Futia, a lifelong resident of Rutherford, died on Friday, Jan. 20. She was 95.

Futia and her husband owned and operated Charlie's Tavern in Astoria, Queens, for 40 years. She enjoyed playing cards, poker, bingo and Pokeno.

"She especially enjoyed her beautiful, growing family of five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren," information from the funeral home noted.

Futia is survived by her children, Jean Gelok and her husband Bob, and Barbara Jessen and her husband George; grandchildren Melissa Centurion and her husband Robert, Stephanie Shultz, and Lynda Wilde and her husband Christopher, George and Christine Jessen; and great-grandchildren Danielle and Centurion, and Alexa Bernard.

She was predeceased by her husband, Dominick Futia; parents Vincenzo and Josephine (Rombola) Battaglia; and brother Carmine Battaglia.

Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 23, in the Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Ave., in Rutherford, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. The funeral will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday from the funeral home, for a 9:30 a.m. mass at the Church of Saint Mary, in Rutherford. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, in Hackensack
